This blog began with a focus on living and working as a teacher in Saipan, CNMI, but will now morph into a discussion of thirtysomething family life in the American southwest. Common topics will include: stand up comedy, sports, politics, travel, scuba diving, music, food, film, education, whitewater rafting and the inanities of people.

Of course it's not Kryptonite...it's not green...there is no sign of a palpitating Lois Lane at the fringe of the picture waiting breathlessly to resue her oft times rescuer...where the hell is Lex Luthor?...wanna bet is has never been anywhere near the Himalayas?
Hope you and the family are having a good New Year so far.
De-lurking mode on; Now. While I have your attention; could you name the small oval leaf used on Saipan and the RPI with chicken and Papaya dishes. Jacki from Wild Bill's used it in a soup for Erdene, just after the lad was born. I found it growning up on Kannat Tabla, but never found the proper name or even the local name. I'm hoping I can find it around San Diego. Any ideas? I'm only de-lurking once a month now, but hoping to make it a habit.
I think it's pepper leaf, at least that is what my Filipino friend called it. It's great.
Sweet. Thanks Jeff. The name rings a very big bell with me. I'm heading down to National City on Saturday, now that I know what to ask for. If it's grown locally I'll try to export it to Mongolia. We used it in a couple of dishes and it went over well with Erdene's mom. She wants to use it in her hot pot spice mix.
What is this? Cooking lessons and kryponite? Parenthood really robbed you of your synicism.
Where's the guy who woke me from the politically comatose and made me angry again? Where's the guy who turned me on to my favorite website, The Smirking Chimp?
Geez, first Dennis goes all "yeah, you know Bush isn't such a bad guy" and now this?
I'm so disillusioned.......
I'm removed from the idiocy of Saipan government, and we've only got a week left of President Shit for Brains, so I'm on hiatus from the poliical stuff. I'm as ticked as you on the bailout stuff.
As for food, access to real ingredients has me exploring new things there. I'm like Neil Young in that regard delving into new interests -- damn the consequences.
